The Council is responsible for the administration of private managed forest land legislation. This includes the setting and monitoring of forest practices standards, performing audits and enforcing standards.

As stated in the Council’s 3 Year Strategic Plan, one of the principles for encouraging forest management practices on private managed forest land is to conduct an audit and inspection program to provide an ongoing assessment of the level of compliance by owners with the forest management requirements. The audit and inspection program is designed to ensure that Council has adequate information of operational compliance of land owners. In addition, investigations are conducted when Council becomes aware of a potential noncompliance.
