Message from the Chair

On behalf of the Private Managed Forest Land Council I would like to thank you for visiting our website.

The Council was created in 2004 under the Private Managed Forest Land Act. We are an independent agency whose mandate is to encourage forest management practices on private managed forest land. The Council is comprised of five members: two who are appointed by the Minister of Agriculture and Lands; two who are elected by the owners of private managed forest land; and a chair who is elected by the other four members. Council’s operations are funded through an annual levy on private managed forest landowners.

The Council is responsible for ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Act and its regulations. These include protections that are consistent with government’s stated public management objectives for private managed forest land respecting water quality, fish habitat, soil conservation, reforestation and critical wildlife habitat.

The Council strives to be open and transparent in its operations. As part of this initiative we have launched this newly re-designed and more user friendly website. Users will find comprehensive information about the governance of our organization, the particulars of the private managed forest land program, and the Council’s compliance and enforcement activities. The website also provides information concerning Council’s operations over time, from the latest news updates to extensive archived documents.
